Jim grew up on a farm in Minnesota. After high school he entered the Air Force for a four year term of which three years were spent in Japan. After discharge Jim worked construction in Kansas and Colorado, where he met Jan, his wife. After graduating for the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley in 1976, Jim went to work for his father-in-law at the John Deere dealership in Limon, Colorado and worked there for twenty two years. In 1988 a car dealership was added to the business. In 1999 both businesses were sold.

Jim obtained his real estate license in 1996 and has been diligently working the area market since. He also has obtained his registered appraisers license and currently works on that end of the spectrum. In his spare time Jim lends a hand at area schools as a substitute teacher.
